Mis-attribution

Although not within the realm of pure plagiarism, mis-attribution is nevertheless a valuable tool to have at your disposal.

Broadly defined, mis-attribution is:

The attribution of words or ideas to someone other than their creator.

As you can see, plagiarism is a distinct form of mis-attribution because it's an implicit attribution of someone's work as your own; but it's not the only kind.
